MY BODY’S LANGUAGE

By Lian Brook-Tyler

Many times a day, I pause to check in with how my body feels.

This is so automagical for me these days that it’s hard to remember that I used to spend most of the time completely disassociated from my body.

It wasn’t until I was speaking to Lucy Pearce this week about being autistic women that I recalled how I used to live - hours spent “in the zone”
deep in code, without a thought of my bodily needs.

It’s also what seems normal for most of the women when they first come to us to walk the path of Waking The Wild, neurodivergent or not… a life spent up in their, admittedly brilliant, minds, completely disconnected from the rich language of sensations that their amazing bodies hold.

Some of them can take months of work before they can really answer the question “How does that feel?”

Embodiment is only a small part of our work but it’s the vital foundation upon which all the deep soul magic rests.

Earlier, I remembered a Marion Woodman quote that captures this beautifully…

“Soul, to me, means “embodied essence,” when we experience ourselves and others in our full humanity - part animal, part divine. Healing comes through embodiment of the soul.”

We can do that in so many ways… dance, body led movement, massage, menstrual awareness, breath work and more… but any embodiment practice is only as good as your willingness to learn and listen to your body’s language.

You can begin right now by simply pausing and asking “How do I feel? And what sensations let me know that?”

I wonder what secrets your body has been waiting to tell you…
